How Zortio works

Rules first, folder second

Zortio reverses the usual order. Before you grant access to a folder, you decide what should happen: which folder structure to sort into, whether duplicate files should be detected, whether the modification date should become part of the file name, and which kinds of files may be touched at all. Next to the rules, a made-up sample folder shows you immediately what the outcome would be.

Only then do you pick the real folder. Zortio reads it, lists every planned move in a preview and waits. Nothing moves until you explicitly confirm – and even then, every run can be undone with a single click.

Your files never leave your computer

The program runs entirely inside your browser. It uses the File System Access API, which lets Chrome, Edge and Opera grant a website access to exactly one folder – nothing more. Neither files nor file names, paths or checksums are sent to a server; there simply is none that would receive them. You can verify this in your browser's network tab.

Zortio never deletes anything. Duplicate files are not removed but moved into a folder of their own, where you can review them at leisure and delete them yourself. System files, hidden files and shortcuts are always left alone.

What you need

A current Chrome, Edge or Opera on Windows, macOS, Linux or ChromeOS. Firefox and Safari do not yet support the required interface; the page opens there, but the folder dialog is missing. No installation, no account and no internet connection while tidying – once the page has loaded, it works offline too.

If you would like to try Zortio safely first, use the sample folder: it lives in your browser's private storage, contains made-up files and is cleaned up again at the end.
